Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a newbie to the publishing world, but I’ve been writing stories since I was about twelve. Fanfiction is great practice.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
‘My Mother’s Dragon’ wasn’t easy to write, but it was needed so I could move on from my mother’s poor choices. I didn’t think a memoir would be my first publication!
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Short sentences. Repetition. More short ones. Just for feelings. Then some meandering bit that brings us back to the plot at hand and gets us going again.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Nancy Werlin, David Almond, along with the plethora of books we were forced to read in high school.
What are you working on now?
Next on the list is either a short horror anthology or a fantasy anthology. We’ll see where that takes me.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Fiverr is good for cheap and quick promotions, but nothing beats your own social media.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Keep going. Your first isn’t gonna be the next Harry Potter, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t tell it.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
If you’re going through hell, keep going.
What are you reading now?
The Emotionally Absent Mother. Sense a theme yet?
What’s next for you as a writer?
A nap.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Survival for Dummies, I’ll be Gone in the Dark, Fast Food Nation, and Anatomy of Melancholy.
