Interview With Author David Franklin
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’ve moved around a lot, having lived in Alaska, California, Oklahoma, Missouri, Tennessee, Virginia and Michigan. I currently live in Indiana.
I have served as a full-time pastor or Christian school teacher for fifteen years. My personal interests include long distance running, Ultimate frisbee, good sci-fi and Irish language/culture.
Open Hands, self-published in 2023, is my first book. Hopefully, more to come!
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Open Hands.
While preparing for a youth retreat, I came across a sermon written by Jonathan Edwards in 1732. It is called Christian Charity: The Duty of Charity to the Poor Explained and Enforced. I found the material to be engaging and challenging. It was well-received by the teens at the retreat, and I began to think that it could be fleshed out into a full book.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Not really.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Jonathan Edwards and C. S. Lewis
What are you working on now?
A companion volume to Open Hands. It will be called He Was Moved.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m too new to this process to have a good answer. Surely, it’s awesomegang.com, right?
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write first. Format, tweak, edit, fix, etc. later.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Brighten the corner where you are.
What are you reading now?
A History of Ireland in 100 Words by multiple authors.
What’s next for you as a writer?
The companion volume to my first book.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe for sure … and then I’d try to sneak a full-loaded Kindle on there claiming that it’s one book.
