Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My name is Dawn Doig and I am currently an English as an additional language teacher working internationally at the American School of Yaoundé in Yaoundé, Cameroon. I was an audiologist for 23 years, hopping around the globe and providing services to patients and their families in countries in this great big beautiful world. I currently have eight children’s picture books published with three more getting ready for release. Five more are currently collecting dust and I have started writing another. My books are inspired by the amazing children I have met in two very rewarding careers as an audiologist and educator, family, friends (including the furry kind), and experiences in different cultures. I am excited by the recent increased interest in my books and currently have a total of five reviews that are all 5-star. It’s a start!
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My newest release is ‘Melvin Fastidious the Sailor’, published under my maiden name, Dawn Young. It was inspired by my father, who is 80 years young, a veteran of the Canadian navy, and an individual with OCD. We laughed a lot growing up about Dad’s need to have things ‘just so’ and still do when we reflect on his nature for perfection.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Do it because you love it, not because you want or expect to be famous.

Don’t give up. Your time will come.

I am relearning French so French compositions at the moment.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I am starting a book about my mother and her ‘collection’ of things.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
