Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My name is Dawn and I come from the UK.
I have written seven books so far, and I’m currently writing my eighth.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is Witch Hunter.
It was just an idea that came to me out of the blue while I was writing another story that was a completely different genre.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Sometimes I write notes, sometimes I write each chapter summary, but most of the time I just type out what’s in my head. Then more often than not, I delete it!
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I would say that reading books by Kylie Gilmore has given me more inspiration to write, as her books were the first series books I just had to have. I’ve read them all, now.
Penelope Douglas is another one for me. Her stories are amazing and I love to get lost in one of her books.
Nicole J Merchant is a new author, but her books are so good! I love everything about her The Guardians Eyes books and have thoroughly enjoyed reading about the different gods and goddesses.
What are you working on now?
I’m working on the next book to One of The Guys. This is the story of Matt, the older brother to the male lead, Logan, in the first book.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I don’t really have a method or preferred website per se, I just try to post on all of my social media platforms whenever I can, but making sure I don’t overdo it.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Research!
It’s no good just diving in and writing the first thing that comes into your head. If your character has a specific job, you need to know how they would speak within their role.
Also, research on the correct grammar usage within dialogue. I.e, semi-colons usgae within dialogue is one of the things frowned upon.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Don’t listen to negativity.
You can be the best of the best, but there will ALWAYS be somebody who doesn’t like you or what you write.
What are you reading now?
I’m reading Caged by Brittany Crowley.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m hoping to finish writing One of A Kind, then start on one of the many stories floating around inside of my head.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
My copy of The Wizard of Oz by Frank L Baum my grandparents bought for me in 1986.
Child Posessed by David St Clair. This was the first book my grandad lent to me, and I couldn’t stop reading it. I was about 12 at the time, and my friends though I was strange for sitting and reading a book.
Taken by The Cowboy by Julianne McLean. I don’t know why, but this has always been one of my favourites, and I’m not a fan of time travel romance or westerns! It’s a really good read.
My fourth would have to be The Guardians Eyes by Nicole J Merchant. This is her debut novel and I’m so proud of her for getting the courage to write her story. Nicole is one of my very best friends and just reading her book fills me with happiness. Plus, she made a young adult version of the story just so my daughter could read.
