About Death in Cold Waters by Tannis Laidlaw
Henry is back in prison. Are young girls – like Maddie’s daughter – now safe? Or is the real murderer about to select his next victim?
Probation Officer Madeleine Brooks was helping her client Henry Macgregor reintegrate into society after a long prison sentence. Henry is amiable, open about his anxieties and willing to take advice; so it comes as a shock when the police throw him back in prison, charged with murder.
To them, it’s logical: Henry’s original crime has too many similarities to the recent molestation and murder of a young girl…and the person who supposedly can alibi Henry has disappeared.
But Maddie can read people and she’d stake her reputation on Henry’s innocence.
Someone has to prove it one way or the other, because a girl is dead, a good man is facing life imprisonment and girls like Maddie’s daughter could be in danger.
But the more Maddie delves into Henry’s criminal past, the more she starts to be bothered by disquieting questions.
Was Henry guilty of the original crime? Or was the real murderer allowed to roam free while Henry sat behind bars? Now, coincidental to his release, a young victim is dead … Henry or somebody else?
And if so…who?

Author Bio:
Tannis Laidlaw writes mostly fiction – well-researched psychological crime books: thrillers, suspense or mysteries – utilising her background as a research and clinical psychologist. She has four stand-alone novels available (one of which won a notable award), this new mystery series featuring Madeleine Brooks, plus two collections of short stories.
Most of the time Tannis lives with her husband in New Zealand alternating between Auckland and an adobe house high above an isolated beach in Northland. Whenever they can, they also spend time each year off the grid on a remote lake in the Canadian wilderness in NW Ontario. All are wonderful places for writing.
