Interview With Author Deborah Kennedy
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’ve written two books. I’ve only published one. The second book is titled: The Secret of Emerson Hall. It takes place in South Carolina after the 1876. It still requires a lot of research.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Two Kinds of Color. It is based on fact and fiction. As you read through the streets and environment, it is the location of where and how I grew up in a particular ghetto.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
One beer before sitting at the computer. It relaxes me. A long walk just to feel and know the characters while thinking of what to write or fix.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Truman Capote, Ernest Hemingway.
Books: To Kill a Mockingbird. The Sun Also Rises. The Grapes of Wrath.
What are you working on now?
A screenplay.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Put your book out there every which way you can. Believe in yourself. Stay focused on your work.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Never give up.
What are you reading now?
The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks.
What’s next for you as a writer?
To fall in love.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Sherlock Holmes, The complete novels and stories.
