Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I started writing about eleven years ago and have since completed 17 books in various genres. My first career was in education, but I have interests in real estate, architecture, and home design. For the last seven years writing has been my full time job.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is The Guardian’s Diary, a story about a boy who faces amputation, first love, and hard choices. It was inspired by a young girl I know who had to have her foot removed after a simple infection went wild.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t know what an unusual habit would be, but I like to sit with my laptop early in the morning and write for a couple of hours on an empty stomach.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I think I’ve been influenced in some way by every author I’ve ever read. I especially enjoy Grisham, Cussler, Meyers, Koontz, and Crichton.
What are you working on now?
I am about a third of the way into a post-apocalyptic story that features a tongue-tied teen whose words could change the world. Picture Moses in the Hunger Games, sort of … maybe.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I have no idea what is best. I am spread across the internet on social media sites, my own web site, blog, and FB pages, and various fantastic author sites such as Awesomegang.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
New authors should expect to be patient. Good books require a lot of editing and rewriting. It takes most published authors about ten years to get discovered.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Learn from your mistakes; better yet, learn from others’ mistakes.
What are you reading now?
I am just about to start on one of Ken Follett’s trilogy books.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I have two ideas rattling around in my head. One is for a young adult dystopian novel and the other is for a time travel story.
What is your favorite book of all time?
The Bible.
