Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I have been in medicine for thirty years. I actually started into medicine with a journalism award scholarship. Writing was a passion way back when, but while finishing my Master’s degree, I was encouraged by my professors to write.
I have chosen to write in the contemporary romance genre. I have written six books. The second book is coming out on August 1, 2013 and I couldn’t be more thrilled to see my dreams come true.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book, Chasing Air which is scheduled to be released in the fall of 2013, came from watching a real-life experience at work some years ago.
That experience, while raw and emotional, was embedded in my memory bank. I wanted to turn that tragic experience into something positive. While I couldn’t change the outcome of the real-life situation, I can change outcomes with the pen! Okay, maybe not every time, because the characters do talk to me and sometimes they change the course.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t know that they are unusual, but I write to music. I am inspired by music, with both seasoned performers as well as up and coming artists such as Keaton Simons, Rie Sinclair, Angie Miller from American Idol and many more.
In my first writings, I included songs (too many, I’ve found out) within the novel. Since music sets my mood, I also utilized the songs to set the mood for the scenes. I have since been told that readers find this distracting, so I have now limited the internal submissions, and rather will be supplying a playlist for the works in progress.
I appreciate the feedback from readers immensely. When they contact me directly, I try to respond immediately.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I have a gazillion, how much room do you have?
Beth Kery, Bella Andre, Sylvia Day, Nikki Duncan, Caroline Clemmons, Geri Foster, Michelle Miles, Liliana Hart, Danielle Steel, Nora Roberts, Hugh Howie, John Grisham, Melody Anne and James Patterson just to name a few.
What are you working on now?
I am working on the 3rd installment in the Running Series, entitled “My Confession,” and my goal is to have it out by year end.
After that, you will see “Forgiveness Creek” currently a novella, coming out at in time for Valentine’s Day.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I have found that Reviewers/Bloggers have such a following and I am grateful for any of them that share my work.
I also have added a Street Team, with gals that I love… Waving hello to my Street Team.
I try to utilize all of the social media that I can and have been trying to stay organized with it.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Yes, I do. Don’t give up. Reach out to fellow authors. Writing is a socially transmitted disease! LOL. Once you start, you’ll be addicted.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Do something for no other reason than to make yourself happy!
What are you reading now?
Souls Set Free by Kimmie Easley
What’s next for you as a writer?
More writing, of course.
Also, I have another business opportunity opening up that’s just fun and I can see possibly using it as a backdrop for a cowboy-inspired romance!
What is your favorite book of all time?
Palomino by Danielle Steel.
