Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a huge fan of science fiction and fantasy literature. I think there’s something magical about alternate realities and stories that allow your imagination to take wing. I belong to the tribe of people that dress up as their favorite characters, know every line in their favorite cult-classics, and have at least one favorite poem. If that poem happens to be by Poe, we share a soul connection.
I currently have five published novels, and two in the works.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My most recent book is titled, “Real” and it is book two in the Simp Series. Initially, I thought that Simple would be a stand-alone book, but my fans encouraged me to continue the story.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I tend to write freely and let my characters come to life. If I need inspiration, I use props and trinkets that help me find my groove. For example, one of my favorite characters from the Weaver Series wears a bowler hat. One hangs on the wall in my office. I currently have a small unicorn figurine on my desk, but that’s for another story.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I love the classics, but I think one of the biggest influences in my writing started when I was teenager. Everyone was reading V.C. Andrews, and I fell in love with her books. I can still remember how excited I would get to see the new covers on the shelf of the bookstore. I love books that have a strong female lead. A plus is a bit of magic or an element of science fiction. Some of my other favorites include Lev Grossman, Charlaine Harris, Holly Black, and Cassandra Clare.
What are you working on now?
I’m currently working on a novel that involves fairies. It’s set in the south and follows a young fairy that has fallen in love with a mortal man and has to leave the realm because of it. There may or may not be unicorns involved…but there are definitely some balls of light to be thrown.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I haven’t mastered the best method just yet, but I’m working on it. ๐
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Always make time for writing. Make sure to surround yourself with people who support your work, and believe in yourself. Everyone has a different style, so never compare yourself. Beyond these things, know that if you were meant to do this, nothing will stand in your way.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“If you don’t ever try, you won’t ever know…which is the same as failing without the effort.”
What are you reading now?
I’m between books at the moment, but I do have a large reading pile that is calling my name.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I’ll be writing, editing, collecting ideas, and questing for new readers. There may or may not be unicorns involved.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Complete Tales & Poems of Edgar Allan Poe, The Gunslinger Series by Stephen King, and a tattered copy of Gone With The Wind.
