Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am an architect based in Athens, Greece. I hold a PhD in History of Architecture and teach History of Art and Architecture in higher education. That’s one passion of mine. The other one is hiking, in and out of town, and writing about it in my cultural travel blog and in my books. I have written 12 books, all of them in English and some also in French and in Greek. One of them is an academic book on Athens, written in a way that it could also be used by amateurs of Athens. The others are travel stories, written so that they can also be used as travel guides, with an emphasis on culture and hikes.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The name of my latest book is “From the Templars to the most sensational love story of all time: Culture Hikes in Portugal”. It’s a travel story inspired by my visit to three top monuments of Portugal, linked to some very interesting stories, as the title suggests.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I wouldn’t say so unless it’s my habit to put my material first in my travel blog, see how it’s received by the public, take my followers’ advice and information and later, when things mature, use the material in a book.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
The author who has influenced me in my travel writing is Jan Morris, whose book “Venice” is, I believe, the best ever written about this city.
What are you working on now?
I am working on a book on Rome, which will take a lot of time, since Rome is, in my opinion, the top cultural travel destination in the world.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I promote my book my travel blog, facebook page and twitter account.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
If you believe you write good stuff, don’t ever give up!
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
If you believe you write good stuff, don’t ever give up!
What are you reading now?
I am reading “Atlas Shrugged” by Ayn Rand. Although I don’t write fiction, I like fiction very much.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I haven’t decided yet. Hopefully, having writing occupying always a greater part of my activities.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
1. “The Name of the Rose”. It has enough material to keep you busy for a lifetime.
2. “Wuthering Heights”. The novel that has touched me more than any other.
3. The complete works of ancient play writers. I believe everything is concerning human beings is there.
