Interview With Author Denise Bruneau
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Hi there! I’m an author, doctor, wife, mom, dog mom, and child of God. I love reading, writing, walking, some yoga, and just hanging with my family and friends. I’ve written three books in the genre of Christian fiction with a flare of romance. I enjoy writing stories that touch people’s hearts and reach their souls.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is Heart Chimes. It’s a stand-alone novel, but it really could be considered a second book in a series with Lavender Sky. It would be the next one to read after Lavender Sky. Many of the same characters from Lavender Sky appear in it, and it’s based in Guntersville, Alabama as well. It has the same cozy, small town feel that Lavender Sky has.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I tend to write in the middle of the night. That’s when the house is the most quiet and I can think the best. Many times, I’ll actually wake up in the middle of the night with the next sequence to my story. It can be invigorating and frustrating at the same time! I just grab a cup of coffee and go with it!
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Richard Paul Evans inspired me to write. His book The Christmas Box is my favorite. Of course, I like the the classic, The Notebook, by Nicholas Sparks. I’ve enjoyed books by Ava Miles, Colleen Coble, Carolyn Brown, Andrea Hurst, Ann Gabhart, Lynn Austin, Julie Klassen, Sally Britton, and Jennifer Joy.
What are you working on now?
I’m currently working on my 4th novel called Never Gone. It’s a story about forgiveness and connection. It should be released in 2024. The setting is in Guntersville, Alabama and it can easily follow Heart Chimes as a 3rd in a series, though it will be a stand-alone book.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I haven’t quite figured this one out yet, but I’m diligently working on it.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t give up. Keep trying, keep working, keep writing. Pray a lot ๐
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The answer is always no if you don’t ask.
What are you reading now?
I’m reading through some of the Pride and Prejudice variations right now. My current reads are by Victoria Kincaid.
What’s next for you as a writer?
To keep writing. To keep the stories coming. To keep delivering the message of God’s love and goodness to my readers.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Holy Bible, Lavender Sky, Pride and Prejudice, Wonderland Creek.
