Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Well, considering my less than auspicious childhood, I’ve had a pretty eclectic set of careers. I hold a degree in nursing, and two diplomas in business and finance. I’ve been a Police Officer, Nurse and International Business Executive and sat on three corporate boards. I’m also a qualified coach in Success Principles and in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. This is my first book and probably the hardest thing I’ve ever accomplished.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The book is entitled, Cruel: One Child’s Journey To Survive.
It is inspired by my childhood which, ironically, was not all inspiring. It was during a time when there was huge social upheaval and children did not have the rights they now enjoy in most countries.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Like Winston Churchill, I like to work in bed. However, I don’t smoke cigars.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I have been a self-help, psychology junkie for decades. Authors like Jack Canfield, Viktor Frankl, Dan Pink and Daniel Goldman have been major influencers amongst many more.
What are you working on now?
I’m structuring my next book which will have at its foundation the reasons fear governs so much of our lives and how it robs us of logic, opportunity and influences our decision making.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I use a variety of methods but it seems that Amazon and Goodreads are the foremost influencers.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
I’m pretty new at this myself and so if I was to offer any advice it would be to get a good copywriter and find people to critically review your book before you publish – both are invaluable.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Remember: you have choice in all things, no matter your circumstances there are always options.
What are you reading now?
The history of Scotland.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Finishing my next book and spending more time public speaking.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The China Study
The Bible
The Count Of Monte Cristo
