Interview With Author Denzel Omas
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Well, I was about nine when I was introduced to novels and a lot of TV shows. I got this huge interest in creating my own stories to entertain people. I’ve written a lot but I’ve published one in the science fiction/action/adventure genre.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The name of the book is ALIENated:81 and it’s the first in a trilogy. My inspiration’s a bit odd. I was seated in class with a friend of mine and was staring at my classmates, then I wondered what would happen if all of us were from different schools and were trapped in this abandoned town with aliens.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Hmm, well, does playing music and imagining my every scene rhyme with some certain music sound unusual?
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Suzanne Collins and the Hunger Games drew me into the dystopian genre before James Dashner with the Maze Runner and Michael Grant with the Gone series cemented that science fiction is an untapped oil well. J.K. Rowling started my interests in books and Harry Potter has been an influence on my fantasy novels.
What are you working on now?
I’m currently working on a sci-fi trilogy of eighty-one students from different schools who get trapped in this abandoned town affected by the time-space continuum and must find a way to coexist with Roxxians who want to experiment on them, consequences be damned.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Well, I really don’t have a method or website as this is like my first published book. I just want to craft a story that people can read and enjoy.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
As a new author myself, I just say keep on writing and don’t lean too much on trying to impress. Pour your heart out into that manuscript.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“Don’t care if your book will be hated or called trash, what matters is that you enjoyed writing it.”
What are you reading now?
I’m delving into the #MurderTrending series by Gretchen McNeil.
What’s next for you as a writer?
To write more books, I guess, maybe learn romance and horror.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows because it’s long and would entertain me. One Piece for its lenght too. The Gone collection if they count as one and the Maze Runner.
