Interview With Author Desmond Devenish
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I have written and published one book and two produced motion picture screenplays.
I’ve lived in New York, Los Angeles, Spain and Italy.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Freedom From Failure
This was born from years of major challenges, setbacks, lessons and eventual victories.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I may listen to the same piece of music over and over again to keep me in the flow.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Anything written by Henry Miller. Jack Kerouac’s “On The Road,” & the brevity and richness of Paul Bowles’ short stories.
What are you working on now?
Several screenplays and a TV series are in development.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I have found Publisher Rocket to be a very useful tool.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write consistently. You will get better and find your voice simply through the process of continual writing.
Avoid overthinking to the point of suffocating your flow.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
About taking on new projects and endeavors… “Everything you do should be the best thing you’ve ever done.”

What’s next for you as a writer?
Write a full-length play.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
