Interview With Author Diana Hongcha
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My name is Diana Hongcha. I have worked as a patent attorney and part-time home school Chinese teacher. I have one published book and another one under revision.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
If You Don’t Go.
I grew up in China and emigrated to the U.S. as a teenager. In the decades since, frequent travel for family and work, combined with a close eye on Chinese media, has given me a front-row seat to the country’s sweeping transformation.
While the West is perpetually curious about China, the reality is often lost in the news headlines. I wanted to bridge that gap through a compelling story. As a lifelong fan of thrillers and historical fiction—and a self-confessed nerd who once obsessed over the mechanics of Bitcoin—I set out to write a novel that weaves these interests together. What began as a simple Bitcoin heist evolved into a much deeper story about the forces shaping our world and their impact on individuals.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Like Hemingway, I write standing up.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Scott Turow (the Kindle County series), Hilary Mantel (the Wolf Hall trilogy), Cao Xueqing (Dream of Red Chambers)
What are you working on now?
