Interview With Author Diane Holiday
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
This is my fourth book, traditionally published through City Owl Press. This is the first in a new contemporary series. (Love on the Lake.) I wrote romantic suspense books prior to this, but I wanted to venture into a new territory. I had so much fun writing this book.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Rock Bottom Romance. It was inspired by my life her in South Carolina. My hubby and I bike and hike at a local park, and I was intrigued by the set up. Also, we are learning all about the “habitat” here. That includes fire ants, alligator turtles, beavers, gnats, mosquitos…the list goes on. Don’t get me wrong, we love it here, but I thought it would be a lot of fun to write about a Hollywood, spoiled star who had to camp in the elements. Oh, she struggles, but she has grit and pride. Not to mention that she refuses to cave when it comes to the rule-following, super-hot campground owner.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Not so much anymore. I used to stop writing at times when my golden retriever nudged my arm. I told myself, “Writing will be here forever, she won’t.” No regrets. I probably could have written more books, but at the end of the day, I wouldn’t trade that for a second of the precious time I had with my girl. Check out my website. You’ll see the love. ๐
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I love Jill Shalvis, Jessie Gussman, Christina Hovland, and Renee Ann Miller.
What are you working on now?
I’m working on the next book and also dabbling with another book in a new series. I’m always thinking of new stories. It’s exciting!
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Probably the amazon link. People can see my author profile there and also all the other books.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t ever give up. There are so many ways to get your book out there. I’d suggest hiring professional editors and cover artists, though. I think quality matters.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
I know this isn’t book-related, but to me, it’s “Hold your husband’s hand. Capture those sunsets. Volunteer where a dog can hug and love you. Tip generously. Smile at strangers, and please, get away from your phone.”
What are you reading now?
Several small-town series books since that’s what I’m writing now.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m super excited to keep writing contemporary romance.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
This first one may shock you:
Watchers – Dean Koontz (although I admit I haven’t read this in a long time, but the writing was compelling)
These are amazing:
Never Marry a Scandalous Duke- Renee Ann Miller (Historical romance)
Played by the Rock Star- Christina Hovland (Contemporary)
