About Diary of a 1st Time Homebuyer by Karyn Murphy
Diary of a 1st Time Homebuyer is a laugh-out-loud, heartfelt journey through the chaos of buying a first home. Told through witty diary entries, it follows a newly married couple as they stumble through tight budgets, endless open houses, inspection nightmares, and the kind of marital “discussions” only real estate can inspire.
Packed with hilarious true-to-life moments (some real, some exaggerated) and practical Pro Tips, this book is part comedy, part survival guide. Whether you’re buying your first home, your fifth, or just love stories about love, life, and the pursuit of the perfect house, you’ll find yourself nodding, laughing, and maybe rethinking that “fixer-upper” fantasy.
It’s HGTV meets stand-up comedy—with a sprinkle of Zillow obsession and a lot of dog hair.

Author Bio:
Hi, I’m Karyn Murphy — lifelong Illinois girl, real estate broker since 2011, and bartender of 20+ years (which, let’s be honest, prepared me more for real estate than any training manual ever could).
With licenses in both Illinois and Florida, I’ve helped people find their dream homes, escape nightmare ones, and survive the emotional rollercoaster that is the housing market. Somewhere between juggling showings, paperwork, and late-night Zillow scrolling, I decided to write a book — one that mixes humor, heart, and house hunting.
I live with my better half, Frank, have two incredible daughters, Brianna and Kamryn, who amaze me every day, and two very spoiled rescue pups — Marley, our sweet senior who’s been with us over 15 years, and Khloe, the 3-year-old chaos agent. Our home is filled with love, laughter, and more pet fur than I care to admit.
I believe life is messy, homebuying is messier, and laughter is the glue that holds it all together. Diary of a 1st Time Homebuyer is my love letter to anyone who’s ever cried in an open house bathroom or fought over which mouse trap is more ethical.
Thank you for being here — and for reading something I poured my heart (and funny bone) into. More stories to come.
