About Displaced: Both Feet in the Game by JJ Carroll
“A mysterious device sends a boy and his friends on an incredible journey in this debut middle-grade novel… This entertaining time travel adventure should appeal to fans of video games and SF.” – Kirkus Reviews”
Back to the Future meets Trapped in a Video Game when 12-year-old Nikola is Displaced 100 years into the past and sets out on a 4,000 mile rescue mission from Chicago to Philadelphia to San Diego. He has no money and no means of transportation. But he does have his two friends, a backpack full of toys from his own time, and a sinister FBI agent hot on his heels.
Nikola can treat the whole thing like a virtual reality game! After all, he made it to the finals in the 2076 Viarbox tournament. He won at the Indianapolis Skyway. He jousted, wrestled a crocodile and saved the world from an alien invasion. He even brought down a full grown tyrannosaur. And it’s barely past lunch.
But this time, he can’t exit the game when he gets hungry or sleepy. This time if he doesn’t finish the mission before the clock runs down, he’ll be stuck in the past forever.
This time it isn’t virtual. It’s reality.

Author Bio:
I love stories set in the real world with an element of magic. My favorite of these is time travel. So, when I decided to jump from (boring) corporate work into fiction, that’s where I started. Time travel turned out to be the perfect gateway genre to historic fiction and now I’m also a voracious reader of historical novels. In fact, I discovered a (seemingly unquenchable) thirst for researching facts to see just how true the stories are. <Yes, I’m a nerd!> So, as an author, those are my sweet spots: time travel and/or historical fiction.
