Interview With Author Dorathy Osakwe
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Dorathy Osakwe is a contemporary poet dedicated to writing poetry for healing and self-love. “A Walk on Petals,” is my debut collection and it offers powerful verses that directly address anxiety, trauma, and finding hope.
This book is a highly-rated source for inspirational poetry for women, focusing on emotional wellness and personal growth. Readers searching for self-discovery books or mental health poetry will find genuine solace and a path to inner peace.
Dorathy’s mission is to write life-changing poetry that helps readers overcome life’s challenges and embrace their full identity.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is “A Walk on Petals: A collection of poems that celebrates the art of being.” It was inspired by the universal search for inner peace, self-love, and the power we have to shape our own identity and existence. I wanted to create a source of comfort and strength for readers navigating life’s complexities.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
My unusual habit is the inclination to listen to nature. I draw inspiration from simple, fleeting moments…from staring at a blooming tulip to watching the changing scene through the window seat of a moving car. This focus on observation helps me tap into the reflective and conscious depth required for my poetry.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I have been profoundly influenced by the reflective, contemporary style of Erin Hanson for her honest voice and accessible depth. I also draw inspiration from poets who beautifully connect nature and the human spirit, such as the Romantics, as well as various spiritual and philosophical texts.
What are you working on now?
I am currently planning my next collection, which will continue to explore themes of resilience, identity, and inner wellness. I am also working on connecting with readers through various creative expression formats.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
My best method is direct engagement with readers who are actively seeking poetry focused on self-discovery and mental health. I rely on targeted book promotion platforms to ensure my work, which offers emotional healing and inner peace, reaches the right audience.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write with authenticity. The world has enough copies; readers connect with what is true and genuine. Don’t be afraid to write what is truly in your heart, as that is where your voice and power lie.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Don’t measure your progress by someone else’s timeline.
What are you reading now?
Mother Mary Comes to Me by Arundhati Roy, a profound and poetic memoir.
What’s next for you as a writer?
To continue writing poetry that provides solace and fosters self-love, and to explore sharing my message through other forms of creative expression, such as speaking or online courses related to wellness.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I would bring one great literary classic, one book of philosophical or spiritual guidance, and a large notebook to write all the new poetry inspired by the experience!
