Interview With Author Dr. Tiffany Sayles
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Dr. Tiffany Sayles is an award-winning counselor and educator with a Ph.D. in General Psychology and a deep commitment to student success. A first-generation college graduate, she has served as a Psychology Program Director and school counselor, blending instructional leadership with emotional support. A nationally recognized speaker, Dr. Sayles has led talks on education, empowerment, mental health, and family engagement. Her debut children’s book, WE SAY, reflects her passion for helping readers embrace self-love, resilience, and belonging through affirming language and inclusive storytelling. Dr. Sayles and her husband Willie are the proud parents of three girls–Willow, Willany, and Willay–all who reside in Alabama.
I have written one academic book-my dissertation, one collaborative project as a contributing author, and now a debut solo book (total of 3 books).
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
I was inspired to write WE SAY after collaborating with my daughter Willow and her 3rd grade classmates on a skit designed to teach tolerance and self-love over a decade ago. When performed at our school, the skit left a lasting impression on everyone who witnessed it, underscoring the importance of children recognizing, from an early age, that their voices hold value and deserve to be heard. A few years later, I was the character ed teacher for summer camp and the students performed it again to receive an applause. I wanted to carry that powerful message beyond the stage and transform it into a book, allowing it to reach countless more children and families. Now is the perfect time to share it, as today’s youth are inundated with messages from every direction, and it is vital that their own voices be strengthened and empowered.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I prefer journaling in my physical journal daily. However, in this season I spend a lot of my free time in my car, so I have learned to voice record my thoughts and save them until I have time to write them down. I also sometimes look back at my life in previous years’ journals on the same day to see what was going on during that year and write an update.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I have always loved reading a variety of genre of books. I love inspirational books, Christian fiction, biographies, and children’s books because of my children’s love for reading.
What are you working on now?
Pre-launching We Say and continuing to promote the Moments for Moms Volume 4. I am also taking advantage of any interview, podcast, or speaking opportunities to promote my brand or share my story.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Currently my author site has been a great success and FB helped me to reach towards my pre-order goal for Moments for Moms.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Self-publishing is great and definitely an option. However, I know without a doubt that investing in my publisher and marketing strategist was a true investment in myself and my need to accept the much-needed help and support for this journey. Though sacrificial, I can already see the payoffs. You are worth any investment necessary to see your dreams move forward.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Never give unsolicited advice. And when my advice is asked, share wisdom from my personal experience and allow the person to decide for themselves what they can or cannot use. Give people the freedom to figure out what is best for them.
What are you reading now?
My husband and I are reading Love and Respect. I am also reading Kim Cash Tate Promises of God series.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I am working with a sister in Christ on a new collaborative project in February.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
My Bible, one of my favorite devotion books, a journal book to capture my experiences, and my dissertation.
