Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m 27 and have been writing stories since I was young. I have a full time job as a radiologic technologist (I take x-rays) but fine plenty of time to write on the side. Most of the time. I have a second degree black belt in Taekwondo and find it near impossible to write a story without a main character that can kick some ass. I have written two full novels at this time and am currently at work on number 3.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The latest book is part of a series. Hiding Till Dawn is book 2 in the Cross Chronicles. This series came to me when I was in the middle of the biggest mental block of my life. I had no creative juices at all, but one morning I woke up and there it was! These characters, their descriptions, and the adventures they would go on just came to life in my mind and I began to write it down. I think a combination of experiences in my life as well as just pure inspiration from my favorite stories helped to inspire this series.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Maybe? I like to write the old fashioned way, long hand. I have notebooks for each book I write and I initially start there. I then type everything up and edit it later on my iPad. I guess that is kinda weird.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Oh my gosh, I have four authors that I will literally bow before. I will read anything and everything they write even if it were on a piece of toilet paper. Jennifer Armentrout, Tamora Pierce, Maria V. Snyder, and Sara J. Maas
What are you working on now?
I am currently working on Chasing The Sunrise, book 3 in The Cross Chronicles.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m still learning the promoting part of being an author, but Facebook seems to be the best for me so far. Only because all of my contacts and friends in the business are on there. It’s where I get all my support.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write every single day. Sometimes its really hard because life gets in the way, or you’re too tired, or you just mentally don’t have it in you. But try anyway. This is something I still have to work on, but when I write, even just a little bit, even when I don’t want to, it helps.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
To write because you love it, not for what you want to get out of it. Its nice to have fans of your books and to have people tell you they love your stories, but if you only write for the then you will burn out. Write for yourself. Write because you love to do it and because that story needs to be told. No other reason is needed.
What are you reading now?
I just finished Sentinel by Jennifer Armentrout.
What’s next for you as a writer?
To continue writing and growing as an author. I would really love to make a list one day, but I’ll continue to write even if I never do.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Holy crap thats hard. And a mean thing to ask. I’d cheat and bring my nook, fully loaded with all my favorite books by all my favorite authors and then I’d bring a solar panel so I could charge it. ๐
