Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m Ed and I live in a bubble of my own making in the sunny southwest of England.
I’ve been playing with writing for a while and have just launched my steampunk novella series The Crimson Blade onto Kindle.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The Providence Engine is the first in the series and the initial concept came when I was looking out over an old railway station in the south of England. The country used to be full of them but lots were closed down in the 1950s and 60s. I began to think what the world would look like if steam had continued to be the prominent source of power – Lo! I had invented Steampunk (if only it hadn’t been invented about 20 years before – but I didn’t know that then…). Many late nights and early mornings later I had crafted the Crimson Blade
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I drink the blood of a bat and morris dance to the sound of Metallica’s ‘Enter Sandman’.
Not really – just a cup of tea.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
HG Wells, Philip Reeve, Philip Pullman, Edgar Allen Poe, Tim Burton and Cory Doctorow.
What are you working on now?
The next series! I want to write a paranormal series set in an England gone by.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Facebook groups and weirdly, Linked in. Yeah, I know – who knew?
Do you have any advice for new authors?

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Give up now, you don’t have a chance.
Gladly, I managed to ignore it.
What are you reading now?
This website questionnaire.
Oh you mean books? Ready Player One by Ernest Cline. I’m late to the party but wanted to get in before the Speilburg film in 2018 sullied it.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Probably another cup of tea.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Big floaty ones that I could use as a raft.
Oh alright then I’ll play. The complete Paddington by Michael Bond, the Mortal Engines quadrilogy by Philip Reeve, The Stand by Stephen King (not read it but I figure I’ll have the time) aaaaaaaand… A great big blank one so I can write in it.
