Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m originally from Cork in Ireland and have lived in London for the past twelve years. I work as a PA in my day job and use my evenings to get the words out of my head and onto the computer screen. I’ve written one book to date, but would like to write more and I’d really love to challenge myself with writing a screenplay one day. I’m currently working on my second novel which hopefully should be released around September or possibly before.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Waiting for a Star to Fall was a story I always had in my head, but couldn’t quite put the pieces together properly, until I visited New York. As I walked through the streets, I could picture certain scenes in my head and felt very inspired by the city. When I returned to London, I recalled the various streets in my head as I wrote it all down. New York in an incredibly inspirational city.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I’m a bit of a night owl when it comes to my writing. I tend to concentrate more from around 8pm onwards. I find it difficult to write during the day, I think because I feel I’m missing out on something going on in the outside world.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Marian Keyes, Helen Fielding, David Nicholls. I love reading any Marian Keyes books, she’s very funny and of course Bridget Jones speaks for itself, it’s so funny. However, I really enjoyed the whole romance, friendship and humour of David Nicholls One Day.
What are you working on now?
Currently working towards finishing my 2nd novel. Almost at the finish line and once edited hope to have it out by September latest.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I tend to use Twitter and Facebook a great deal to promote, but I do find I’ve had a great response to Awesomegang which is why I keep coming back! ๐
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t give up! No matter how difficult you’re finding it all, keep going as it’s so worth it in the end to hold your first novel in your hands ๐
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
It’s something someone said to me once and I now use it as my motto : Everything happens for a reason – and if things go wrong now, I believe something better is around the corner.
What are you reading now?
JoJo Moyes Me Before You….I’m playing catch up with my reading
What’s next for you as a writer?
I’d like to continue writing novels and also a screenplay at some point. I really enjoy writing and would love to write full time eventually as it is my passion.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
One Day – David Nicholls
Anything by Marian Keyes
I Heart New York – Lindsay Kelk – I love any books New York related but this one I could picture the scenes as I read it.
Total contrast would be a Michael Connolly book or something by Dan Brown
Overall I have many books that I enjoy but I am a contemporary romance reader and writer, so tend to go for that feel good funny book.
