Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My name is Eleanor Oberio. I am a mom, an author, a playwright and a publisher. My first published play is entitled “The Unfinished Masterpiece”. I’ve also co-authored and just recently launched a children’s book entitled “The Adventures of Emanuel: The Flying Shark of Bouncy Land”.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is called “The Adventures of Emanuel : The Flying Shark of Bouncy Land.” My son inspired me to write the book and it was done through a playful collaboration with him. We’ve created it after we relocated overseas to be with my husband. Most of the characters in the story like Mr. Kitch, Dani Zuckow, Emanuel Tickles & Peter Pickles were named by my 4 year old son. I was responsible for naming Sara Bloom, the pink dolphin in the story because I love pink dolphins.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t know whether to call it unusual but I write better using post-its.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I love reading a lot of books but I particularly love the works of JK Rowling, Kate di Camillo, Og Mandino, JF Penn & Norman Vincent Peale.
What are you working on now?
My son and I are working on the sequel to the first book in The Adventures of Emanuel series. The working title is The Secret of the Knotting Clock.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Facebook, Twitter and my own website.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
The hardest part about being a newbie author is having the confidence to believe that someone will ever take an interest to buy your book. But write a book because you have a purpose. Eventually, you will overcome anything if you just keep on hustling. Let people know that you’re doing a bit of writing. Post in your Facebook, Instagram & all your social accounts. Show your friends and family your journey and then once done, celebrate. You deserve it! Most people go their graves with their book inside of them. You may face rejection every now and then but just keep on writing and try to quickly move on.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Once you’ve published a book, just keep on hustling. Marketing is everything especially if you’re a self-published author.
What are you reading now?
I’ve got a couple of e-books that I’m reading right now. I’m also reading an Og Mandino book at the moment.
What’s next for you as a writer?
The offering of services for e-books and audiobooks production for self-published authors on my website.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Power of Positive Thinking, How Things Work & The Holy Bible.
