Interview With Author Eliza McJames
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am an avid reader and have been writing since I was little. This is my first time to publish. Book one is out, book two is almost ready for edit, and book three is in the outline stage. I am also working on the next series of sweet, contemporary love stories set in the Carolinas.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
“My Billionaire Cowboy In A Suit” is the name of my recent book. I actually finished it this month while on a trip to a beautiful town in the Swiss Alps. The title is pretty cringe-y, right? But the need to be smart with marketing plays a huge role in getting a book seen, especially for an indie writer, so if having tropes in the title and in the story help bring readers, then I’m in! As long as I can still write an engaging story with fun, dialogue and characters, I’ll use the tropes to market.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I have stories playing through my head all the time. Sometimes I will have a story so worked out that it’s like I know these people, their personalities, their issues, all before I’ve even written a word. If I could get the stories in my mind down on paper, I’d have my own library. Some day.
Also, I am able to write prolifically when I have country music playing.
What are you working on now?
I’m working on the the second book in the series. Actually, I guess you could call it my third, (the first, “My Billionaire Cowboy in Boots” is a long novella that I give away when you join my email list!). It is “My Billionaire Cowboy in Cuffs.” Characters from the past books will find their way into this one. The main characters have issues to overcome, the first being that they meet while one is handcuffed to a hospital bed. Not the best first impression.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I began by using Bookfunnel swaps, and then added Bookclicker. Growing a subscription list to reach out to and respond back to readers has been the best way to promote my book.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Like everyone always says, “keep writing.” Get feed honest feedback, learn from it. Keep moving forward. When discouraged, write more.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Everyone wants to write a book. The difference between one who does, and one who doesn’t is that first step. Take the step.
