Interview With Author Elizabeth Chirico
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I was born in the Philippines and moved to the US in the late 80s. I enjoy writing, photography, and creating websites for family and friends. I also created my high school, college, and photography Facebook groups and pages. I’ve written 15-20 stories but just self-published a book about my golden retriever recently.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
A Dog’s Tail: The Adventures and Mischiefs of Rocky. My late mom was influential in my writing and photography. I owe a lot to her. I believe that she was crucial in the adoption of our puppy and recovering from a health issue. Rocky, I believe, was her gift to me and my husband.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I’m a neat freak! I can’t concentrate on my writing if I know that I need to tidy up our house and everything looks organized and neat.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Anthony Bourdain was my number one idol when it comes to writing. I’ve read ALL of his books! Another one is a Filipino writer, under the pen name Bob Ong.
What are you working on now?
I’m trying to learn the marketing side after recently publishing my book on KDP Amazon.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Social media, word of mouth to family and friends, but I still need to do more.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Make your story relatable to people. Find your comfort zone or niche and explore the possibilities. Learn from the experts, writing coaches who can offer guidelines and tips to enhance your writing skills. Read books that are interesting to you. If you’re stuck or having a writer’s block, just take a break for a couple of days.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
I believe it came from Bourdain. He mentioned that after he finished his manuscript or rough draft, he just puts it in the drawer for days until he pulls it out again to read it and make necessary edits or changes.
What are you reading now?
Just Go by Drew Binsky.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I want to publish more of my written work.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I’ll bring my author’s copy of my first published book (A Dog’s Tail: The Adventures and Mischiefs of Rocky, Nasty Bits by Anthony Bourdain, Bob Ong’s ABNKKBSKNPLA
