Interview With Author Elizabeth Holland
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I write predominantly romance novels, but also have a couple of short stories focused on mental health. For me, reading is a chance to escape my thoughts and feelings and lose myself in a new world. I try to bring this into my own writing and provide the opportunity for the reader to escape their everyday worries.
The Cornish Vintage Dress Shop is an example of me writing something idyllic for the reader to escape to.
In contrast, my short story, Behind Closed Doors, focuses on a number of different mental health struggles. It's a brutally honest account of what everyday looks like when you're battling your mental health.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book releases on 12th November and it's called A Merry Christmas at the Castle. It follows Eve Merry as she leaves her life in London behind to cook in a castle over the festive season. However, she soon realises cooking in a castle is demanding – especially when the chef has lied on her CV! With a brooding Scotsman to contend with, this Xmas is going to be one to forget.
I love Christmas and for me, there's nothing better than curling up with a festive romance. This book is a pure indulgence of everything I love at Christmas.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I wouldn't say I'm unusual, but I would say I'm quite disciplined. I try to write at least a few words each day. Some days I'm not feeling it and I know there's no point in pushing it. When the creativity hits, I more than make up for those slow days.
What are you working on now?
I'm trying to have a little break, but two stories are fighting to put on paper. I have one manuscript I'd like to re-write, which will fit into my vintage series. There's also a new story idea bouncing around my head, which would fit into a new series stemming from A Merry Christmas at the Castle. I'll have to see which one wins the fight as to what I write next!
What are you reading now?
I've released two books in two months so now I'm having a relax and enjoying spending my free time reading! Right now I'm halfway through The Locket: Magician's Prophecy by Rachel L. Tilley and am loving it. Romance is my go-to genre, but the self-published world is filled with too many good books to limit myself to just one genre! I have lots on my TBR list that I'm looking forward to reading over the coming months.
