Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I grew up in the suburbs of a city and spent my vacations in a small Midwestern town. My love of writing began as a child during those long, summer car rides. I’d pack a bag full of books, blank journals and assorted colors of pens. I rediscovered writing as an outlet for the stresses of day-to-day life. Through it, I revisited those magical summers as a child.
I’ve published one book and have drafts for five more. I’m looking forward to getting more of my work out there. Whether I am writing or reading, books have always been an escape for me and I love that idea that my works can do the same for others.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Chachkis and Chicken Wings: The Case of the Oakton Falls Burglar
My best friend suggested writing about a medium for one of my books. I love to write fantasy and supernatural stories, so it was right up my alley. The setting is based on the small town my mom grew up in and that I love dearly. As for the plot and the characters, I couldn’t say what inspired me. The real ideas happen when I start putting words to the page.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
It’s not unusual, but I almost always have tea handy. I also like to take my laptop and move around. It helps me keep things fresh.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
There are too many to name!
What are you working on now?
I’m working on a steampunk novel. I love trying new genres and styles. For me, writing is all about growth and exploration. I always have styles, genres, and places that I come back to, but it’s important to set aside time to challenge myself.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Complete Works of Jane Austen, a Stephanie Plum book for a good laugh, The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein, and whatever mystery was next on my list.
