Interview With Author Ember Holt
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I started writing Little Mermaid fanfic at the tender age of 5 and have since written 20+ books under 3 different pen names.
When I’m not reading, writing, or promoting my author business, I’m playing games (Diablo 4 right now), cooking, or enjoying time with my family.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The Starlite Heist (Releases 7/18/2023) is in the Fae Prison: Earth series. That series was inspired by the idea that came from me reading too many isekai stories and I wondered, what would happen if Earth was actually a prison for naughty fae that would get isekai’d here when they’ve done something bad. What if that happened a long time ago and the world grew and developed, the Fae Prison Guards becoming little more than myths and legends of gods. Yeah, fun stuff.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I’ll listen to the same song on repeat for an entire writing session (1-4 hours) if I’m really vibing with it.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Laura Thalassa, Elizabeth Helen, Raven Kennedy, Shannon Mayer, SJM (of course), Rebecca Yarros, Rebecca Kenney, Carissa Broadbent, they’re all amazing.
What are you working on now?
Fae Prison: Earth 3, The Phoenix Bloodline. 80% done!
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
TikTok has actually been great recently. Promoting there is super simple, too.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write your blurb before you write your book. It will tell the emotional journey that your character is going to go through, the promise you’re giving to the reader. It will act as your North Star through the process. I do this every time now.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Give up on perfection: good will produce a result, waiting for perfection will give you absolutely nothing.
What are you reading now?
Woven By Gold by Elizabeth Helen (two co-writing sisters! so fun!)
What’s next for you as a writer?
Some whiskey? I think I’ve earned it… ๐
My next series is what I’m super excited about. I’ve already written book 1, but it’ll be a Dark Fantasy Romance 4 standalones that follow the different princesses through their trials as their kingdom crumbles down around them.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros
The Stand by Stephen King
A Court of Mist and Fury by SJM
Enders Game by Orson Scott Card
