Interview With Author Emilee Avink
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Greetings, fellow seekers of the craft! I am Emilee Avink, an eclectic witch deeply immersed in the art of natural magic. As a devoted partner to my sweet husband and a proud mother of two boys aged 9 and 5, my journey is woven with the threads of family and spiritual exploration. In the magical realm, I am accompanied by my feline familiar, Ms. Beans.
Beyond the enchantment of spellcraft, I curate an array of witchy products, including crystals and jewelry, available on my website. These treasures are designed to infuse a touch of magic into your spiritual wellness.
My passion extends to the exploration of literature on witchcraft, spirituality, and personal development. This love for learning has culminated in my written work, “Embracing the Witch’s Shadow: A Guide to Transformation and Self-Discovery: Unlocking the Secrets of Witchcraft, Healing and Personal Empowerment.” This transformative journey seamlessly combines ancient wisdom with contemporary self-discovery techniques.
At its essence, the book unravels the art of witchy shadow work, providing a transformative path to healing, growth, and empowerment. Whether you are a seasoned practitioner or new to the craft, the holistic approach ensures accessibility for all. With 400 prompts across 20 themes, the book acts as a roadmap for self-reflection, healing, and self-discovery, enriched with knowledge about crystals, herbs, rituals, meditation, tarot, and more.
“Embracing the Witch’s Shadow” emphasizes ethical witchcraft, aligning your path with values and well-being. Embark on this magical journey of self-discovery, embracing the realms of shadow and light, and unveil your inner power to unlock limitless potential.
Many blessings to you on your mystical voyage!
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is titled “Embracing the Witch’s Shadow: A Guide to Transformation and Self-Discovery: Unlocking the Secrets of Witchcraft, Healing and Personal Empowerment.” The inspiration behind this work originated from a viral shadow work book that gained popularity on TikTok. Intrigued by the concept, I purchased the book but was disappointed as it delved into deep questions without providing sufficient space for personal answers.
Motivated by this experience, I decided to create a comprehensive guide that addresses the shortcomings I found. “Embracing the Witch’s Shadow” is crafted with 20 different themes and features 400 prompts, offering ample space for individuals to articulate their responses. My goal was to ensure accessibility and inclusivity, catering to both experienced practitioners and those new to the craft. Through this book, I invite readers on a transformative journey of self-reflection, healing, and empowerment, unlocking the potential within the realms of shadow and light.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Yes, I do have some unusual writing habits that contribute to my creative process. While I write, I engage in singing, eating, and often use my e-cig and weed pen. These practices inspire me and contribute to managing any discomfort or pain. The combination of music, food, and a relaxed atmosphere created by these habits enhances my focus and allows for a more immersive writing experience.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Flora Rheta Schreiber’s “Sybil” profoundly impacted me since high school. My love for psychology and understanding the human mind grew through this influential work.
What are you working on now?
I’m immersed in researching the creation of an oracle deck, with plans to publish it next year. Simultaneously, I’m cultivating ideas for five potential books, contemplating which one will unfold as my next literary venture.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I find that directing readers to my personal website is my most effective method for book promotion. This approach increases the likelihood of visitors discovering additional content in my store, encouraging them to make multiple purchases and fostering a deeper connection with my work.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
My advice for new authors is simple: just start. If you have an idea, run with it. The process of creating a book is not only enjoyable but also brings a profound sense of accomplishment. Embrace the journey and let your creativity flow.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The best advice I’ve ever heard is, “Use what you have where you are.” This empowering mantra has become my personal motto. Its origin may be unknown, but its impact is profound. Embracing this philosophy encourages resourcefulness, innovation, and a proactive mindset. It reminds me that, regardless of circumstances, I possess the tools and capabilities to make a positive impact right where I am.
What are you reading now?
I’m currently reading in two great books:
“The Body Keeps the Score” by Bessel van der Kolk
This groundbreaking work by Bessel van der Kolk delves into the intricate connection between the mind and the body. It explores the effects of trauma on both mental and physical well-being, providing valuable insights into the healing process.
“Container Magic” by Charity L. Bedell
In this enchanting book, Charity L. Bedell introduces the art of spellcraft using containers. Drawing from Conjure, Hoodoo, European folk magic, and modern witchcraft, Bedell guides readers through the magical potential of sachets, bottles, poppets, and jars, offering a rich exploration of magical practices.
What’s next for you as a writer?
For my upcoming projects as a writer, I plan to create an Oracle deck and am currently deciding on the theme for my next book. I have a clear vision that the book will be centered around shadow work, featuring prompts and exercises for self-reflection and personal growth.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
