Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My name is Emily Reilly and I am a 22 year old entrepreneur. I’ve only published one book but I’m working on my second!
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My book is called, Saving Ivy. I took me a little over seven years to complete but it was so worth it! I started writing it my freshman year of highschool. I can’t tell you exactly what inspired the story because truthfully, it popped into my head and just started flowing out onto paper. I ended up posting a small snip-it on a website called WittyProfiles and the amount of positive feedback i got was overwhelming! I had hundreds…literally hundreds of people loving the story so far telling me I need to get this published and so I listened to them. If it wasn’t for the girls on that website I don’t think I would’ve ever even thought about publishing a book!
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t think so. The only thing I’d say is I put myself down a lot when I re-read my writing. I tend to hate everything I write so I end up re-writing it lol. It seems silly but I guess that’s just me. I re-wrote Saving Ivy THREE TIMES!!!
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Alyson Noel is my inspiration. I’ve loved her writing since I spontaneously bought her book when I was in sixth grade! SHE IS AMAZING!!!! GO READ HER IMMORTAL SERIES… Seriously.
What are you working on now?
I’m working on my second book. I’m not going to share the details because I want it to be a surprise for my readers!
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I made a facebook page and an instagram page for my book. I don’t do facebook that often so Instagram is where I met a lot of people who actually ended up buying my book and loving it! They all make me feel really grateful and blessed.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t give up. Simple.
Keep pushing until you are done. There was so many times I wanted to give up and throw my book out the damn window. But thankfully, I didn’t and I’m so happy I kept with it because the feedback I’ve received from my book has been nothing short of amazing.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
‘Stay true to you.’ I live by that advice. If I had listened to all the people around me I would not be where I am today.
What are you reading now?
Right now I am re-reading the Immortal series by Alyson Noel.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I haven’t gone on a book tour or have had an official book signing so I’m hoping that’ll be coming soon. But other than that right now I’m happy with how my second book is coming out and I can’t wait to share it with all my readers.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Of course I’d have to bring my book, Saving Ivy. I’d bring Rich Dad Poor Dad, Evermore, The Last Song.
