Interview With Author Eric Williford
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
For the last 20 years I’ve been a screenwriter and indie filmmaker. I’ve mostly worked in the horror space, but I’ve ghostwritten for all sorts of genres. I’ve also done a lot of book to screen adaptations for self published authors.
The Dead Ate Cheese is my debut novella.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is The Dead Ate Cheese. It’s inspired by my love of zombies, my disdain for cheese, and the US response to the Covid pandemic.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Not really. I love to outline. It’s actually my favorite part. That’s when you can go off on all the crazy tangents and let your imagination run wild. Then you take the best stuff and craft a story out of it. I don’t know how unusual that is, but most writers seem to hate the outlining phase.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
For authors, I’d have to say Chuck Palahniuk, George R.R. Martin, and Brian Jacques. The Redwall books really introduced me to world building and fantasy when I was growing up.
What are you working on now?
I’m actually just finished with the self edit of my next book. It’s a novella about a woman who kidnaps a novelist and forces her to write a book with her. It’s been really fun to write. I think people will really enjoy it. I’m going back and forth on what I want the title to be, that’s why I’m not going to mention it.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
My website, Facebook, or IG.
thedefpix.com (website)
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Just write the damn thing. Worry about everything else later.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The best way to sell your first book is to write your second book.
What are you reading now?
I just finished No One Rides For Free. Geesh. That thing was brutal.
I’m about to hunt for my next book.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Writing more books. I also have a film that’s currently on the festival circuit. It’s called “Cold Blows The Wind”. I wrote and directed it. It’s won a bunch of awards so far. I’m really proud of it.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Survivor
Fight Club
The Shining
Redwall
