Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am in my mid fifties, a Taoist, a geek and cat lover, collector of tattoos and piercings and books in various genres. I have written three books so far, multiple short stories including short story serials, and plan on writing many more in the future.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Tales For The Night, a small compilation of horror stories. I wanted to dip my finger into the horror genre and I think it’s going to be my main focus now, as I have two more books in progress akin to that.
I was inspired to write it in part due to my adoration for HP Lovecraft and his works. One of the stories in my book is a direct homage to him, although modernized. Another is actually the intro vignette to my next horror novel.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Unlike others, I cannot have music or other distractions around me when I write. I must have coffee, of course. I must also get the ending for the piece firmly in mind and write toward that end, otherwise the characters run off by themselves and I never know where they’ll end up.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
HP Lovecraft, Arthur Conan Doyle, Edgar Rice Burroughs, Robert Bloch, Isaac Asimov, Robert Heinlein, Harlan Ellison, Marion Zimmer Bradley, Stephen King, Dean Coontz, to name a few.
My favorite books are Stranger in a Strange Land by Heinlein, The Tao of Pooh by Benjamin Hoff, 1984 by George Orwell, and The Time Traveler and War of the Worlds by HG Wells.
What are you working on now?
Final Rites, a paranormal investigator novel set in modern-day Grand Rapids, Michigan. It stars a transgender woman as the protagonist and covers many issues that people struggle with in today’s world, as well as magick and the Grimsfelk, the creatures from the other side of the Veil.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I like to use Facebook and Twitter.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write, write, write. Then edit, edit, edit. Then get non-biased feedback.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Today is the best day to make changes that you want to see in your life. You can’t go back to the past and you can’t predict the future but you can affect what happens today.
What are you reading now?
David Edding’s Belgariad series.
What’s next for you as a writer?
In October of this year, I will be speaking and writing at the literary convention, FanNexus, in Spokane, Washington.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I would bring Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe, the Tao Te Ching, The Belgariad by David Eddings, and Extraterrestrial Civilizations by Isaac Asimov.
