Author Bio:
Maitreya Dasa is an Englishman who, at odds with the ethos of his countrymen and failed in romance, began looking abroad for the fulfillment of his life.
His great adventure, which took him to seventy countries, started as a search for personal happiness but ended as a quest for truth. Along the way, he realized universal truths that have existed in human society for two million years, according to Vedic scriptures. He understood his true nature was the soul, not the material body. He realized that his unknown guide and mentor was the Supreme Lord, the Supersoul existing within the heart of all living entities. His crowning glory was as a rare soul when he realized the Lord to be the cause of all causes, and all that exists.
In 1979, he was initiated by a disciple of His Divine Grace Srila Prabhupada, the Founder-Acarya of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness. He was given the spiritual name Maitreya Dasa by His Holiness Satsvarupa Dasa Goswami.
Before becoming an initiated Vaishnava, Maitreya took various jobs, from a privileged expatriate worker in Africa to a road sweeper in Scotland. Since dedicating his life to the service of Lord Krishna, he has served as a priest, cook, book distributor, treasurer, farmer, gardener, and landscaper. He has lectured on Vedic philosophy for more than forty years. A vision of beauty motivates many aspects of his life.
In 2016, he was granted citizenship in America, making his attempted escapes from his homeland fait accompli.
