Interview With Author Eskay Kabba
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Eskay pens erotic romance novels that celebrates the LGBTQ community, people of color and interracial relationships.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is Signs of Affection, part 3 of a 5 part series. It’s a journey of retired Marine Connor McIntyre, the main character, falling in love and coming out with former Army
written in first person narrative. I don’t really know what inspired it. It is a spin off of another story I have and became its own story.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
The best time to write for me is 4am to 7am. I wake up and suddenly a scene that I had been trying to put together is so clear in my mind. I go downstairs with my laptop and start writing until the sun comes up.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I read a lot of unpublished stories from brilliant writers on various platforms from Liteortica to WattPad to Inkit. But I have been reading erotic romance from the days of Zane, E. Lynn Harris and Tiffany Reisz.
What are you working on now?
Another MM romance of course! It’s completely different from The Hidden Love series — the setting, themes and family drama — but the love between two people and how they show and share their love will always be there. And of course, the HEA.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I find social media works best. I have FB, IG and Twitter but I focus on IG the most. I know Tiktok is the *in* thing right now, and eventually I’ll venture over there.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Just keep putting yourself out there! You’ll have great reviews and not so great reviews. Don’t let the not-so-great reviews get you down. Take the constructive criticism and learn to do better.
Also, get a proofreader! As good as you think you are, you simply can’t proofread your own stuff.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“Have faith in your dreams and someday, your rainbow will come smiling through. No matter how your heart is grieving, if you keep on believing, the dream that you wish will come true.” — Cinderella
What are you reading now?
I’ve collected so many books during the pandemic from Children of Virtue and Vengeance ( Tomi Adeyemi ) to Dear Evan Hanson ( Justin Paul ) and haven’t started reading any of them! I need to start reading again.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Book Signings! I’ll be at the Smut Lovers Conference in Florida in September 2023 and ApollyCon in April 2024. I hope to see you there!
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Let’s start with the two books I mentioned, Children of Virtue and Vengeance and Dear Evan Hanson! Best place to start reading them! I would add The Giver Quartet and maybe one of the Harry Potter books with me. Probably Book 7, The Deathly Hallows.
