About Everything
Alden loved me in high school, and we’ve had a hot and cold history ever since. I know we can have a second chance at love; I don’t care if he’s a single dad and we’re middle-aged. We were everything.
As soon as I saw Alden in 9th grade, I was a goner. It was 1990, and he was the hot soccer player everyone wanted, and he picked me: plain Fern Green with mousy brown hair. All I wanted was to make Alden happy. He was, and still is, everything.
I know he still feels it too. It’s obvious in the way he kisses me whenever we see each other, how he always checks in on me to see how I’m doing, how he tells me he wishes he could be a better man for me.
We’re grown up now, and we’ve tried going our separate ways, but we always find each other again. No one knows me like Alden does, and he tells me there has never been another woman like me.
So why aren’t we together? We’ve wasted enough time trying to forget each other, and I’m ready to walk away, I’m not the same needy girl I was in high school. But something is telling me to give it one last try. If Alden doesn’t see what I see between us, doesn’t want what I want, he’ll never hear from me again because I can’t do this anymore.
But I’m going to give it everything I have to convince him that our second chance can end happily ever after.
