Author Bio:
The author, Bernie Unrau, an implant dentist by training, stumbled across an article in a 1985 CDA Journal entitled “Dentists as Detectives” and a four minute video, an interview with the prolific Robin Cook, a physician and ophthalmologist by training. His mastery of the medical thriller inspired Bernie to embark on a 2nd career and a new uncharted course each summer. The central character in his novels is Dr Gum, a nickname he acquired from his “Gumtex” dental surgical training models which ultimately paid for his lengthy medical, dental, post doc studies and clinic. Dr Gum, perhaps part bumbling lieutenant Columbo or the deductive Sherlock Holmes the imaginary detective created by Sir Conan Doyle, also a physician. The tenacity of Dr Ryan conceived by Tom Clancy, or the curiosity of Indiana Jones A dash of the dapper James Bond blended, shaken and stirred into the equation the inspiration of in depth concept research of Michael Crichton and his creations or the powerful suspense of a John Grisham legalistic thriller. Or to simply bring some of his years as a dentist, lecturer and inventor to light by engaging in espionage, elucidating an enigma, disclosing the dastardly or diabolical scheme, or dreaming up a formidable frightening future. And as the prolific Zane Grey, dentist turned novelist turned screenwriter, pen 100 books. The author has enjoyed travel, tennis, sailing, skiing, swimming, hiking, flying, reading and thinking. He is single and currently resides in Calgary, Alberta.
