Interview With Author Francis H Powell
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I have written four books, including compiling an anthology, called Together Behind Four Walls.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest books is a children’s book, called “The Fish King and the Two Wise Ghosts” it was inspired by a drawing my son did, which looked like a king holding the hand of two ghosts. It was first written as a long poem, then I chose to change it to prose, but I kept a lot of the poetry.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Not that I know of, but probably yes.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Roald Dahl books and books by Rupert Thompson.
What are you working on now?
I seem to go between writing horror stories and children’s books. At the moment I about to send some stories to a publication company that puts horror anthologies together. I also have other projects in the pipeline, including more children’s tales. I also regularly write poetry.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
It is hard to say, but I use twitter a lot, whether it results in book sales I am not sure. I also post things on Instagram and Facebook.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t give up. Enjoy writing and creating characters and stories, even if your books are never published.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Be yourself.
What are you reading now?
I am listening Station 11.
I am reading a Rupert Thompson book set in Barcelona.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Hopefully more published books, poetry readings, poetry workshops.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
A George Orwell, a Roald Dahl, one of mine, a Rupert Thompson
