Author Bio:
Heroin and crack cocaine tightened their grip on my son during his late teens, an addiction that endured relentlessly for over 15 years. When I first discovered his addiction, I held a naive belief that I could rescue him. But I was devastatingly mistaken. Heroin proved mightier than any help I could offer. Three years ago, another heroin addict heroin inflicted brutal blows upon my son’s head, shattering one side of his skull with a metal skillet.
My son’s younger sisters and his only daughter have never had the chance to meet the man he was before addiction claimed him. For his daughter, he will forever be a heroin addict, robbed of the opportunity to know her father beyond this affliction.
My son’s struggles were dismissed during his school years, and he was unjustly labelled a troublemaker. I once questioned whether ADHD could be the root cause, but my inquiries were met with denials. My pleas for help were brushed aside, leaving us in isolation. Heartbreakingly, while researching this book and as my son’s daughter received an ADHD diagnosis, it became clear that my son’s ADHD remained undetected during his formative years. Although not every person with ADHD succumbs to addiction, I firmly believe this undiagnosed condition played a pivotal role in my son’s descent into heroin addiction.
