Interview With Author G. J. Brown
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
This is my second interview with the Awesome Gang, and I’m happy to be given this opportunity. I will start with a little background about me.
I have loved reading and writing since I was a child. As an adult working in the education field, I often find my mind wandering to ideas for my latest book project. Having to balance teaching and writing has proven a challenge, but I will never stop writing because it is a true passion for me. My main goals in life are to be a good wife, a good mother, and a good writer. That is more than enough to keep me quite busy, I’m sure.
I currently have three books published and two short stories: Hidden In A Hawaiian Sunset, The Hills Of Tuscany, A Story For Ireland, The AI Archives, and Assassin: The Chronicles of Arith.
Hidden In A Hawaiian Sunset, The Hills Of Tuscany, and A Story For Ireland are the first three installments of The Broken Woman Cycle. This series is about people who feel broken yet continue to struggle onward until they achieve their versions of true happiness and healing. Of course, I had to add romance, action, comedy, and a bit of crime thriller into the mix.
The AI Archives is a standalone science fiction story that reflects on love, trauma, and what it means to be human. Assassin: The Chronicles of Arith is the herald of a new fantasy series I’m dreaming up. It is based in a world with gods, magic, and epic heroes set to save the world as they follow the ultimate paths of love, freedom, and truth.
Those are my past and current projects. I hope anyone who gives them a chance enjoys the reading! Thank you for the opportunity to share my books with the world.
Happy Reading, everyone!
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Assassin: The Chronicles of Arith is my latest book. When I was a child, I would spend hours building fantasy worlds for my friends and I to play in. We ran through the woods, climbing trees and sword fighting all day long. These memories of pure joy and adventure inspired me to start a fantasy series. Some of the characters are actually based on people I know in real life.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Not unless you count ingesting too much coffee.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I love Julia Quinn and the funny banter, as well as deep connection, in her books. I also love J. K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series for the imagination and adventure in every page. Both women have a fantastic sense of humor. That definitely influenced my own writing. I also have a soft spot for classic authors such as Poe, Austin, Bronte (both of them), Shakespeare, Doyle, Tolkein, and some Dickens. I also immensely enjoy newer authors such as Juila Quinn, J. K. Rowling, Shannon Drake, Julie Garwood, Terry Goodkind, R. A. Salvatore, and Matthew Reilley. I could go on forever.
What are you working on now?
I am currently working on two projects: the last book in The Broken Woman Cycle and the first full book in The Chronicles of Arith.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I use a combination of methods, such as social media and sites like Get Books Reviewed Online.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
I would say to never forget that you love writing, as that’s the main reason you are publishing in the first place.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Book sales are more about marketing than quality writing, so building a platform is the first step to getting your books out there. It’s important to build those skills even if you hate it with the passion of a thousand suns (like me).
What are you reading now?
I am currently reading the Uglies series by Scott Westerfeld. I am also reading Rapunzel’s Tower: A Fractured Fairy Tale by Wendy L. Anderson.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I hope to finish up The Broken Woman Cycle with book four, and then dive into my fantasy series completely.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Oh, God. Okay, I can do this. The Bible, an enormous anthology of classic and contemporary literature, Tropical Fruits And Other Edible Plants, and How To Survive On A Deserted Island.
