Interview With Author Gabriel La’bard Tham
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m Gabriel La’bard, a storyteller drawn to the seductive side of human nature—the lust, the secrets, the danger hiding behind every glance. I write for readers who crave tension, power play, and emotional depth wrapped in steamy, suspenseful plots. Two Scorpios: When Lust Turns Dangerous is my debut novel, and it’s the first in a bold new series that explores passion at its most dangerous. This may be my first published work, but I’ve been writing in the shadows for years—refining characters that don’t play by the rules and stories that refuse to be tamed.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest—and debut—book is Two Scorpios: When Lust Turns Dangerous. The title says it all: it’s a story about two powerful, emotionally complex people drawn to each other like magnets—and flames. I was inspired by the idea that lust isn’t always clean or soft. Sometimes it’s sharp, manipulative, obsessive. I wanted to explore what happens when two dominant personalities—two Scorpios—collide in a world where power is the ultimate currency. The inspiration came from real psychological dynamics, layered with fantasy, and topped with unapologetic heat.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Absolutely. I write best at night—when everything is quiet, the world feels darker, and my characters start to whisper. I light a single red candle, pour a drink, and let the mood take over. It’s like setting a scene not just for the book, but for myself. Sometimes I’ll write entire scenes in the voice of one character, then go back and layer in the other’s energy—like a dialogue between predators. And yes, I keep a playlist filled with moody trap beats, sensual instrumentals, and dark romance scores that help me stay in the emotional zone.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I’ve been shaped by a mix of grit, sensuality, and psychological insight. Louis L’Amour’s Hondo left a lasting impression—his characters had emotional toughness and a raw intensity that bled off the page. From the world of political philosophy, Niccolò Machiavelli’s The Prince and The Art of War taught me how power, strategy, and control play out beneath the surface—lessons that I carry into every mind game and manipulation between my characters.
I’m also drawn to the fearless intimacy of Anaïs Nin’s Delta of Venus, the smart, seductive boldness of Tiffany Reisz’s The Siren, and the dark, twisted brilliance of Gillian Flynn’s Gone Girl. Each of these authors helped shape the DNA of Two Scorpios: When Lust Turns Dangerous—a story fueled by desire, strategy, and the razor-thin line between control and surrender.
What are you working on now?
I’m currently working on Book Two in the Two Scorpios series—and this one goes deeper, darker, and even more emotionally twisted. Without giving too much away, let’s just say the power struggle intensifies, the stakes turn deadly, and some secrets refuse to stay buried. Readers who fell for the tension, dominance, and emotional fire of Book One will find themselves in even more dangerous territory.
I’m also outlining a standalone erotic suspense novella, something grittier and faster-paced, with a femme fatale at its center who’s just as lethal with her words as she is with her body. If Two Scorpios was a slow burn into obsession, this one will be a lit match tossed onto gasoline.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
So far, my most effective method has been Amazon’s KDP Free Promotions combined with strategic posting on platforms like Reddit and X (formerly Twitter). Reddit, especially subs like r/FreeEBOOKS and r/BooksGoneWild, gives me direct access to readers who are actively looking for new and edgy reads. Twitter helps me build a brand—letting readers get a taste of my voice, my heat, and my aesthetic.
I’m also exploring promo sites like Freebooksy, Book Doggy, and The Fussy Librarian, which help get my book in front of large reader newsletters. Promotion, like seduction, is all about timing, atmosphere, and knowing exactly what your audience craves.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Start before you feel ready, and don’t wait for permission. Write boldly, publish bravely, and learn as you go. The fear doesn’t disappear—but neither does the fire. I’m new too, and if I can do it, so can you.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Honestly? A random YouTube comment once said:
> “At some point… our balls fall off.”
I still don’t fully know what it means, but it hit me like a life lesson in disguise. Maybe it’s about aging. Maybe it’s about letting go of ego. Or maybe it’s just a poetic way of saying: don’t take yourself too seriously—because eventually, gravity wins. Either way, I keep writing like I’ve still got a full set. 💀✍️
What are you reading now?
Honestly? Nothing at the moment—because my brain is still recovering from writing Two Scorpios. Right now, I’m reading plot twists in my own head, arguments between characters who won’t shut up, and the blinking cursor on my screen judging me silently. I’ll get back to reading books soon… but for now, I’m stuck inside one I haven’t finished writing yet.
What’s next for you as a writer?
What’s next? Honestly, I’m not sure—just following the fire and seeing where it leads
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I’m bringing The SAS Survival Handbook, How to Signal a Plane with a Coconut, and How to Make Fire Without Crying. And maybe one steamy romance to remind me what human contact used to feel like. Priorities, right?
