Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Hi, my name is George, I’m 27 years old and I have recently published the only book I’ve written. I have also recently become a newly qualified nurse. So it’s been an epic year for me so far!
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The book is called The Unplugged Summer: An Englishman’s Perspective of Life at an American Summer Camp
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I scribble lots of notes down on paper first. I cross every idea off, once I have pieced it together in my written work. You’ll find lots of post-it notes and paper from note pads scattered around my computer when I’m working on something.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Ghost Boy, by Martin Pistorius – was an excellent read for me and it’s a book that will be inspirational for anyone, to overcome any obstacles in life. Martin’s creative writing style in the book has inspired me to write my own book.
This is Going to Hurt, by Adam Kay – has hilarious stories as well as heartbreaking insight of life on the NHS frontline. It’s an interesting read for me personally, as I’m now a qualified nurse in England but I also love all the humor that’s involved in his words and from that I’ve embedded my own humor in some parts of my book.
What are you working on now?
Now, I’m just going to concentrate on the start of my career as a nurse. At the same time I will promote my book as best as I can and hopefully I will get positive feedback from it.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I have utilized social media to promote my book. I have found Instagram to be a major platform for promoting books on these days. Facebook is also effective in gaining the recognition from all your friends around the world. Plus, my WordPress website is there for the occasional blog and if any readers want to ask me about anything.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Be brave and trust your ideas and your work. Ask expert people for help if you’re unsure about something too, though. I found the Upwork website to be really good in seeking for editors to polish over my work and to help make it more presentable and refined for my readers.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
More of a statement I’ve recently heard but – “Working hard for something we don’t care about is called stress; working hard for something we love is called passion.” Simon Sinek
What’s next for you as a writer?
Not sure yet. Need to get the creativity and drive to do a book again!
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Bible, Robinson Crusoe, This is Going to Hurt (to keep me amused), Lord of the Flies,
