Getting It Write: Common Sense Copywriting for your Business by Marilyn Messik
In business you have to be crystal clear so clients and customers understand exactly what you’re offering. Get that right, and you’ll be laughing. Get it wrong, and you’ll have nothing to smile about.
Unfortunately life’s no fairy tale, and books promising to take you straight to the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, generally don’t. That’s because each of us has to find what works best for us.
I don’t believe there are ever any absolute rights, wrongs or rules in writing. I do believe you can benefit from options, opinions, suggestions, structures and strategies, based on more years experience than I like to admit.
So amongst many brow-furrowing issues discussed you’ll find stuff like,
• NOT MURDERING YOUR MESSAGE.
• MARKETING HITS & MYTHS.
• HOW AND WHEN TO CREATE KILLER COPY LINES.
• PUBLIC SPEAKING OR ROOT CANAL?

More info:
A feature and fiction writer for various national magazines a regular column in Mother & Baby, Marilyn’s first business was setting up teams to sell children’s party goods, she subsequently opened two shops, adding books and educational toys to the mix.
When she sold the shops, she moved into the travel market, creating tailor-made, of- the-beaten-track trips to the USA. Based on the success of her U.S. Welcome Booking & Planning Service, she set up a Publishing Company, and produced U.S. Welcome, Selected Hotels & Inns, a full-colour annual publication. When, several years later she sold the business to a FTSE 100 company, she launched her Copywriting Consultancy.
As well as writing for businesses, Marilyn has continued writing fiction, features and editorials, she’s blogged for The Telegraph Online, and created and published the Vintage Ladies Collection. She’s also written four Business Books, and four Paranormal Novels – taking care not to mix the two.
