Interview With Author Ginger R.
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am an avid reader of mainly nonfiction books. I developed a passion for writing at age eight through writing poetry. This later became a passion for songwriting and eventually writing books in early adulthood. I have written and self published two books. The first is a fictional story called “Curing the Pain in Forgiving Them”, and the second is a true story based on my personal life called “Colorful Love Life”.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is Colorful Love Life. It was inspired by the emotional torment I faced by my own family for dating and eventually marrying my now husband who is outside of my race. We were heavily covertly discriminated against by my parents who raised me to essentially be prejudiced. In spite of the hatred we faced, we fought for each other and never left each other’s side. We’re better people with better lives because we chose each other.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Some of my songs and poems were really funny and corny as a child and even as an adult. I’ve created multiple silly playful jingles about my hubby which I’m pleased to say he tolerates.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I appreciate the literary works of Adeline Yen Mah. Her books detail the harrowing experience of childhood trauma that she faced. I can relate to this because of the emotional trauma I faced for decades both in and outside of the household I was born in. Jennette Mccurdy and Shima Kindelin’s life stories also inspire me. I can strongly relate to Jennette’s mother-daughter relationship filled with psychological manipulation and control. Shima’s story truly resonates in that I know what it’s like to be black in America, but feel like you fit nowhere.
What are you working on now?
Currently, I am marketing my second book. I have been sharing my story with multiple professors and experts on racial issues in the United States.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I have had great success reaching out to professors who teach about the same subject that my life story highlights. The published works of their own have been a great inspiration to continue to fuel the passion centered around sharing my story with the world.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Please stay persistent. Almost every book has the potential to be a best seller once it gets in the hands of the right person. Do not be discouraged by the lack of sales. Be encouraged by what you’ve done thus far and what you’re going to do. Hold on tight to your passion and always persevere.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The best advice I have ever heard was from the Bible. In particular, the verse: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” This has proven to be true throughout my life. Once I started praying to God and telling him that I could not accomplish anything without him, my prayers were being answered almost instantly. I would not be alive today nor have any of the blessings I have if it weren’t for the Lord Jesus, and I will forever stand firm in my faith.
What are you reading now?
Currently, I’m reading the book “Evidence that Demands a Verdict”. It is an informative book that highlights the historical evidence centering around the events in the Bible, and most importantly, Jesus’s crucifixion and resurrection.
What’s next for you as a writer?
A goal of mine is to be a bestseller. I also intend to write even more books on other aspects of my life that may be avoided subjects of conversation for many.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I would bring the Bible, a survival guide, and Evidence that Demands a Verdict.
