Marty Kay grew up as a horse-crazy girl in the city, and reading books about horses was her only interaction with these amazing animals for many years. Like you, she had lots of questions: She wondered things like what kind of horse is a foal, what the difference was between a pony and a horse—and of course, how much does it cost to own a horse?

Author Bio:
Marty Kay Jones grew up in a fairly urban area, so her parents were pretty confused when their child showed a strong interest in horses at age 2. Following a move to a more rural area in her childhood years, Ms. Jones, like the protagonist of her Old Quarry Lake Farms series, was finally able to take horseback riding lessons and learn more about her favorite animal.
Today, Ms. Jones is still obsessed with horses, but now she gets to see them every day. She runs a small boarding stable in the Appalachian foothills and loves teaching new generations everything there is to know about horses.
Marty Kay Jones believes learning never stops, and extends her equine knowledge to horse-obsessed young readers through the Old Quarry Lake Farms series of young equestrian fiction books, as well as non-fiction horse books.
Written for young readers, pre-teens, and girls 8-12, Ms. Jones’ books have won over readers of all ages. From sharing heartbreak and triumphs with 11-year-old Shelby Simone to reading Ms. Jones’ personable, warm, and easy-to-understand guidance and instruction on the topic of horses, readers continue to praise Marty Kay Jones as an author who can inform and entertain readers who are curious about, love, or are obsessed with horses.
When not playing with her own horses, Chip and Mango, Ms. Jones can be found hiking with her Australian Sheep Dog Petey, tinkering around with her project hot rod, or curled up with a good mystery novel.
