Interview With Author Gonda Kapika
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I was born in the Netherlands in a village called ‘de Lier’ and I later moved to a city named ‘Delft’. Since I’ve had always loved writing I started to practice writing (with some ups and downs). After I’ve completed my photography studies, I decided to write my first book!
It’s called ‘Dragon Egg Hunters’ and it’s my first and only book! (So far)
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The name is Dragon Egg Hunters.
It’s inspired by the fantasy series ‘Lord of the Rings’ and my love for fantasy and dragons. Oh and I watched a few ‘Jurassic Park’ movies when I was young, so that might have influenced it as well.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Sometimes I write without describing the scene, as if people can read my mind, haha.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
‘Lord of the Rings’, ‘Jurassic Park”…perhaps also the movie ‘Battle Royal’….but I’ve never read the books of the ‘Hunger Games’, which would people expect to be a source of inspiration. (I mean, I do know the story, but it hasn’t particularly influenced my mind.)
What are you working on now?
The sequel of Dragon Egg Hunters!
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Instagram definitely. Also youtube and facebook.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Make the story cohesive and don’t jump from one point to another, it will confuse the reader. And make sure to save up, publishing a book costs money!
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Don’t think about what isn’t possible, just do what is possible.
What are you reading now?
“A Poet to His Beloved” by WB Yeats.
What’s next for you as a writer?
The sequel, and perhaps after that another story in a different genre.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
“Remember Me?” from Sophia Kinsella (It’s a really funny and interesting story.)
“Lord of the Rings” from Tolkien, the first one, obviously.
“Dairy of a wimpy kid” from Jeff Kinney. (Again, funny book.)
“The Worst-Case Scenario Survival Handbook” from David Borgenicht and Joshua Piven (I have to survive somehow).
