Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I AM TAMRA is my first complete novel, and I am currently writing the next book that picks up where this one leaves off.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I feel that writing and acting are very much connected, and sometimes I have to actually get on the floor and crawl, or sit on a bench and stand, or fall backward from a blow to the face in order to know how I will describe it in my writing.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
When I first read George Orwell’s 1984, I knew that if I were to ever write a fiction novel, this would be the model. Since then, books like Hugh Howey’s Silo series, Cory Doctorow’s Walkaway, and anything by Ursula LeGuin have been strong influencers in the way I incorporate my politics into my writing and the way I give away information.
What are you working on now?
The second book in the SkyWorld series, as well as a short story about when the mass extinction of animals turns us to grading and eating one another instead of giving up our habit of meat and dairy consumption.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Kindlepreneur.com and his YouTube videos have been essential for me as a first-time self-publisher.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Stephen King’s, ON WRITING. The whole book is amazing.
What are you reading now?
I just finished THE GRACE YEAR by Kim Liggett, and will probably turn back to my queue of Ursula LeGuin unless I find a new speculative fiction book to devour.
What’s next for you as a writer?
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
A COMPLETE GUIDE TO ISLAND FORAGING, SURVIVAL TIPS ON A DESERT ISLAND, and EMERGENCY MEDICAL SELF-CARE.
