Interview With Author Heidi Blevins
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am from Southern Indiana, and I enjoy music in any genre but one, I am also the author of Phoenix in December and Violet Tendencies. I write with raw emotion and compassion, I write from the heart and my own experiences.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Violet Tendencies, is a play on words meaning that most would say you have violent tendencies. I wanted to bring out the point that it is possible to have both violet and violent tendencies that it is part of who we are , it is the human connection we all have with each other , whether it be compassion or empathy or anger and frustration.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I do not have a scheduled time I write, I write when the inspiration hits me, and I don’t always work on the same book, I often have 3 or 4 books going at the same time.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Mya Angelou, Emily Dickinson, Ted Dekkar, Frank Perretti
What are you working on now?
A book about the misconception of organized religion, another one about romance scammers and how they operate, another book on the music business, and another on Reiki practice and a 30-day chakra challenge.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Grass Roots, you will find your audience when you see them face to face, social media is not kind, and has a very sharp learning curve for those not experienced.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Before you start writing, do your research about the tools you’ll be using, such as word processors and grammar checkers. Also, research the various publishing methods available, such as traditional publishing, self-publishing, and hybrid publishing. This will help you make informed decisions about how to get your book published. You can do your own marketing, but hiring someone is the least stressful way, otherwise, your second job after the book is done is now marketing and sales, most authors just want to write.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Write what you want, and don’t let other people’s opinions influence your direction, everyone has an audience, and eventually, you will find your people and they will never let you go.
What are you reading now?
The Places That Scare You by Pema Chodron
What’s next for you as a writer?
I am taking a break just to write, take some beautiful photos, and reflect on the past year of writing 2 books and publishing 2 books in one year. What I enjoyed about it, was what I did right and what I did wrong so I don’t repeat my mistakes. Next is a season of reflection and focus on a new direction from here.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Violet Tendencies, Greek Hebrew learning bible, anything from Frank Peretti or Ted Dekar.
