Interview With Author Heidi Dischler
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My name is Heidi Dischler and I’m an avid reader and writer! I run my own blog and author website, www.heididischler.com. I do everything from book and movie reviews to even the occasional Broadway review. I’ve written four novels (with one of those being published this year!), and they’re Words We Never Say, 2,697 Pages, All the Little Things, and You Were Always There. When I’m not writing or managing my website, I’m working or home with my toddler, husband, and two dogs. My favorite hobbies (besides writing, of course) are tennis, singing, and having dance parties with my little girl.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest novel, You Were Always There, is scheduled to be released on April 16th, 2026! It is a YA contemporary with romance sprinkled in, and has themes of found families and strong female friendships. To be honest, inspiration came from my own experiences with found families, but the story itself hit me in the middle of the night while I was on maternity leave. It was crazy and surprising to me how much writing I got done while on maternity leave (in a huge part due to my amazing husband).
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I can’t say that I have any truly “unusual” writing habits. I love writing in coffee shops and when the house is completely silent (usually at night). I will say that if I’m trying to write while laying down on the couch, I will get absolutely nothing done!!
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I think some of the books that influenced me the most are The Way I Used to Be by Amber Smith and The Program series by Suzanne Young.
What are you working on now?
Right now, I’m working on a novel about a girl who is basically trying to get her brother out of foster care after their father passed away. As you can see, I love writing emotional stories with huge stakes!
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Promotion and marketing are such detailed and intricate processes. There is no one “best” method, but what I’ve found to be SO helpful is to research what has worked best for others. There are so many forums, blog posts, and other resources that give you breakdowns on what works best for other authors.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
My advice is to not just focus on writing! Research how you can get your book out there. As a self-published author, the best thing I ever did was to research how to market myself as a writer along with how to make my writing better.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Some of the best advice I’ve ever heard is a mixture between “if you want it enough, you can achieve it” and “discipline is choosing between what you want now and what you want most,” which was coined by Abraham Lincoln. I think there’s a huge balance to be found between knowing you want something with all your heart, but also having the discipline and work ethic to go after it.
What are you reading now?
I’m currently reading Atmosphere by Taylor Jenkins Reid and Life: A Love Story by Elizabeth Berg!
What’s next for you as a writer?
I think as a writer, to keep writing is always next! But as an author and blogger, I always try to increase website traffic, book marketing tactics, and find the next best thing to get my name and stories out there.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Oh, man, this is a tough one! If I could only bring 3-4 books with me, I’d probably pick Sadie by Courtney Summers, The Broken Girls by Simone St. James, Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers, and The Wedding People by Alison Espach. These books have stayed with me long after I finished reading them and I absolutely adore these authors. I could probably reread each so many times (which would totally happen on a deserted island!).
