Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My name is a Helen Blacksmith and I am a self-published author of romance and young adult novels. My first two published books focus on interracial lesbian relationships and how love happens when you least expect it.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is about first love and being torn apart from that love love. What inspired is that I wanted to write a story that focused on love and the lead characters just happen to be lesbians because everyone who has ever loved someone deeply could relate no matter what their sexuality happened to be.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Yes, because I have attention deficit disorder and my writing is done out of order, as the ideas come to me, and then I piece them together.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Maya Angelou, Shakespeare, Janet Evanovich, Langston Hughes… it’s a long list.
What are you working on now?
Currently I am working on a novel called Today I Love You. It is based upon today’s opioid crisis and focuses on the recovery and redemption of my main character.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I use Twitter a lot, but most of my promotion is done on Facebook.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Just keep writing and eventually you will find your audience.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The same advice I wrote for new authors: just keep writing and eventually you will find your audience.
What are you reading now?
Work related things. Between writing and my day job I haven’t read a good book in far too long.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I have two novels I am focusing on, one will be the first book in a detective series I have been putting together.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Tuesdays With Morrie, any heavily Ranger focused Janet Evanovich Stephanie Plum novels would round out my other three
